PMA MEDIA RELEASE: PUB-U

Want to learn more about the publishing industry? Looking for ways to beef up or enhance your publishing company? Pack your knapsack and attend PMA-U in May of 2008 in Los Angeles, CA.

The Independent Book Publishers Association presents: the 2008 Publishing University “Creative Strategies for Growth, Profit and Success.” Have you been before? Come again. This PMA-U is new and just for you! PMA-U will have an advanced tract for publishers who meet three or more of these criteria: more than five titles, have attended PMA-U before, have publishing as the primary business, been in business for 5, gross $250K in sales. Established publishers will have classes on Tuesday indicated by an “A” for advanced, with a linear program all day Wednesday.

Desire one on one time with distributors and/or publicists? Tuesday features speed dating type segments to express your concerns or answer questions. On Wednesday and Thursday have a private consultation for ten minutes in “Meet the Speakers” with two Early Bird sessions from 7:00 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. On Thursday Brian Jud is offering a media training course; this includes a 5 minute television interview with a 5 minute critique and the video tape!

Also new this year are internet courses including information about social media, blogs, e-zines, etc…Barnes and Noble’s trend courses return as a strong favorite from previous Universities.

PMA-U SCHOLARSHIP

PMA awards a PMA-U scholarship to one member of each Affiliate group. The scholarship includes free registration to attend the Publishing University, plus a $500 stipend to help pay for travel expenses.

Applicants must:

  • be a member of an Affiliate group as well as PMA.
  • be a publisher, preferably in the early stages of developing his/her company.
  • not be a past scholarship recipient.
To apply, fill out an application and submit it to the IPNE Board. We will post announcements on the website and the mailing lists when application forms for the 2009 PMA-U are available to download from this website.
