IPNE Engages New England Booksellers at NEIBA Conference

03 Oct 2014 11:21 AM | Charlotte Pierce (Administrator)

Gathered at the IPNE table at NEIBA are Jennifer Delaney of JMD Publishing; Judith Rosen of Publishers Weekly; Pamela Fenner of Michaelmas Press; and Steven R. Porter of ARIA & Stillwater River Press.

From the whirl of the "speed dating" luncheon with agents and distributors, ad-hoc book signings, and networking with booksellers, to the fellowship of volunteer member "Indies Helping Indies," the New England Independent Booksellers Assn. conference was an action-packed and productive cooperative marketing event.

A total of 27 IPNE members exhibited 35 books at the annual conference of New England Independent Booksellers Assn. (NEIBA), held Sept. 30-Oct. 2 in Providence, RI. Several intrepid authors seized the opportunity to sign and give away books to the throngs on Oct. 1 - wise move! Others who staffed the booth were glad to be onsite to engage directly with attending bookstore staff and owners.

We are eternally grateful to our volunteers Leah DeCesare (Naked Parenting); Kelly Kittel (Breathe: A Memoir); Tori McCagg (Bittersweet Manor); editor Kelli Fay-Wolfe who came on behalf of her son, wunderkind author 17-year-old Sean Fay Wolfe (Quest for Justice: A Minecraft Novel); publisher Jennifer Delaney (JMD Publishing); and IPNE co-founder and Michaelmas Press publisher Pamela J. Fenner. IPNE interim president Charlotte Pierce (Pierce Press) coordinated the exhibit.

A special mention goes to Steven R. Porter, ARIA founder and publisher of Stillwater River Publications, who represented eight books at the "Publishers PickNic" lunchtime event on Sept. 30, where book distributors and reps review publishers' offerings in a "speed-dating" style event.

After NEIBA, we were on to NELA on Oct. 19, the Boston Book Festival on Oct. 25, and the ARIA Author Expo on Nov. 8! Mark your calendars for next year's October events, and register early for the best options. IPNE often offers a membership special at these events.
